The director and screenwriter Jobst Christian Oetzmann was born in 1961 in Hannover. He graduated in 1981 in Freiburg i.Brg. In the following years he studied Sinology and Japanology in Freiburg and Berlin (FU). In the years 1985 - 1991 he studied at the College of Television and Film, Munich (HFF), Abt.III, in which he participated in seminars with Peter F. Bringmann, Jiri Weiss, Laslo Koltai.

In addition to his studies Jobst Christian Oetzmann worked for the commercial film director Roman Kuhn and for many years in various functions at the Munich Film Festival and as a production manager of the University of Television and Film from 1991-1992.

Since 1992, Jobst Christian Oetzmann is a freelance director and author for cinema and television, mostly for public broadcasters. His films are screened at national and international festivals, nominated for awards, or won accolades such as his crime scene "In Freefall" the prestigious Grimme Prize 2001 and his movie debut "The Loneliness of the Crocodiles" the Bavarian Film Award 2000 or the TV drama "The Novembermann ", which was awarded the" Film Art Award for Television "in Mannheim in 2007.

In addition to his work, Jobst Christian Oetzmann teaches at various film schools in Germany in the departments of directing and book.

In addition, Jobst Oetzmann is a member of the Association for the Federal Association of Directing (BVR). He was a member of the board of the BVR from 2005-2012 and again since 2016, where he was instrumental in advancing the modernization and broadcasting fee negotiations of the association.
